John is the leadership heart of the organization, and key to the success of the team’s projects. His three decades of real estate consulting, project management and construction oversight have taught him that the changing and dynamic needs of the industry require the best real estate and construction solutions, and that these solutions must take a highly organized and rigorous approach to planning. His deep experience within the technology, biotech and pharmaceutical industry ensures that the Kavanagh team has the bottom-line ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, cost effectively, and, ultimately, exceeding the expectations of the client.

John brings a balance of academic rigor and applied practical experience in development, construction, finance and project management. His extensive hands-on-experience is a result of having held senior management positions with regional and international development and construction firms. Additionally, John has provided a wide variety of real estate counseling and construction services for developers, investors and financial institutions in Southern California.

John Kavanagh III has 24 years of construction and management experience ranging from proprietor of his own contracting business to estimator, engineering and project manager for various large contractors. His experience with Kavanagh Associates is as a principal and project manager. He has extensive experience in programming, planning, design, construction, commissioning, operations, and managing large, complex programs and projects. A member of the U.S. Green Building Council and the ISPE (International Institute of Pharmaceutical Engineering), John brings a deep understanding of sustainability and technology issues to clients’ projects.

John becomes an extension of the client’s project management department, utilizing and adapting the client’s processes (including value management, risk management, peer reviews, funding processes, constructability reviews, integrated design schedule, contractor safety program, etc.). He helps stakeholders to define the scope of the project, manages strategic alliances with consultants, multi-disciplined teams, contractors, suppliers, and other project management service providers and interacts routinely with clients’ planners to develop scenarios for both the strategic and tactical planning going forward.

John is also the heart of the company culture, mentoring project team members and motivating personnel, maintaining a high level of morale, and fostering a harmonious work environment.
